A Model-Based Approach to Automated Validation and Generation of PLC Code for Manufacturing Equipment in Regulated Environments

Validation is a critical stage of the equipment design process as it provides documentary evidence that performing per specification and ensures consistent product quality maintained at all times. The advent Industry 4.0 has led to requirement for reconfigurable manufacturing systems manufacturers adapt an increased customer demand personalised products. As control software becomes increasingly complex accommodate these requirements, new approach validation required. This paper presents methodology in regulated environments, using model-based platform (MathWorks® Simulink®) model digitally validate Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code required equipment. A workflow presented detailing steps implement this demonstration was developed proof concept. documentation PLC are automatically generated based on system functionality successfully verified physical demonstrator, proving feasibility proposed approach.
